What do your support workers/carers know – ready for inspection?

Do you feel confident that your staff would do well if asked questions tomorrow by an inspector?

Here are a few suggestions to get them ready.

Make sure your staff and support workers watch this video, it will give them a better understanding about the Care Quality Commission.

  • Do your staff and support workers know where to find information on:
  • A specific policy to read;
  • A medication MAR chart to complete;
  • A client’s care plan;
  • Information on a client’s physiotherapy exercise plan.

Can you guarantee your staff and support workers have read these specific policies:

  • Whistleblowing
  • Safeguarding
  • Data protection – UK GDPR
  • Mental Capacity Act
  • Complaints
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Covid-19 and infection control
  • Lone working
  • Medications management
  • Health and safety
  • Social media
  • Manual handling

If an inspector asked a question about any of these policies above would your team members know how to respond in relation to the work they do?

Are you satisfied your team would be able to answer the questions below?

• When did you last do your safeguarding training? What impact did the training have on your role?

• Do you know how to deal with a complaint from a client?

• Do you know what the vision is of the company that you work and what their aims are?

• Do you know what to do if there was an incident? Who would you report to?

• Do you know what the six rights of medication administration are?

• When was your last supervision?

• How often do you ask for consent with the clients you support?

These kind of questions are ideal to help get your team ready for inspection.
